My father-in-law has given up hunting for now (mother-in-law says he is too old-83) and has given me three of his rifles. One is a 94 top ejection w/ scope. My problem is two part- 1). the scope sits off to the left of the receiver in an unusual position for me (I have to pull my cheek off the stock) and 2). no matter how much I adjust the crosshairs it still shoots 6- 9 inches high. I tried to adjust the plastic shim in the mount, but that only made problem #1 worse. My father-in-law said he knew it shot high "but I just aimed lower" and he shot right handed but used his LEFT eye.
I have not changed the mount, but did think about that as a possible solution.
Has anyone else had these problems? What did you do to fix them?

Four things to think about:

1.. The mount may have been added crooked....and as I remember those mounts, the ring spacing is a bit short, so a small mounting error would result in a large POA error.

2.IF shimming the scope made it worse, possibly shimmed it the wrong way. Becasue of #1 (the short spacing) would proably thinly shim the top of the front right and the bottom of the rear.

3. Nothing to be done about the off set to the left...you just get use to it or add a strap-on pad to the left side of the butt stock.

4. May be that there is some room to adjust the mount...probably no harm in taking it all apart, cleaning it, and inpsecting the mounting system...something may have shifted over the yeas (there may be a good layer of rust happening between the mount and the reciver).

Were other guns, like the Garnad, that used an off set scope mount...but I never did find them all that comfortable to shoot in a hurry.
