I have owned a 39 for years in different types. I had one of the NRA Oct barrel but sold it , big mistake. I now own 39 rifle with 24 inch barrel and this rifle is one of the most accurate 22 i have owned. I have the Williams reciever sights on this rifle because it is balenced so well without a scope mounted. This is one of the rifle made a few years back without that piece of crap crossbolt safety that Marlin forces you to buy if you want a new rifle. CCI Mini-Mag HP is the most accuate ammo i have found in all my 22 lr cal rifles including the Marlin 39. Let see a photo of your favorite 39. :D

Here's a picture of my favorite 39A. This one is a first year model, made in 1939. I love shooting it, or just admiring the craftsmanship that Marlin once put into their guns!

Nice looking 1939 39 you have there.

Not to douse your fire, but my 1948 and 1967 and 1981 lever action Marlins are very nicely put together. The newer ones are just as nice I hear.

That is one sweet 39, If I owned that I'd probably be a wimp and wouldn't want to shoot it, knowing me I'd trip and get 25 scratches on it.

I bought a 39 in 1988 and later traded it for a savage 7mm-08. I miss that rifle. A couple years ago I saw one in a gun shop with great wood so I bought it, so I'm back in busyness.

Here is a few pics of my 1897CL before I put a scope on her. She was rigged with a Marbles tang sight and a Lyman 17A front Globe sight with Lee Shavers inserts.

Alas, I got to the point where I couldn't pick the squirrels out of the leaves using the peep sight, so I wound up mounting a Burris compact 4-12x32 w/ AO & target knobs on her. No squirrel in the woods is safe now!! :D

I need to take an "after" pic of with the scope mounted. As soon as I do, I'll post it here.

Thats firstclass Firstshot, it really has that gun from the olden days look. With a scope those squirrels better watchout.
When does squirrel come in in Arkansas?

Hi Old Wolf,
Yes, the newer ones are still pretty nicely put together. I've got a 1955 Mountie, and I'd say they still made them as well then for sure!

Thanks ATR! I've got another 1940 vintage that's close to this one in finish, but a couple of those small dings you mentioned.

Here's my 1958-59 S.I just mounted a 3-9X40 Tasco on it.
It should make a good squirrel rifle, but when you put a 40mm objective scope on a .22,it gets a little bulky for hunting.

Below is a rifle I've used for squirrel for almost 50 years.A Marlin 56,with a Tasco 3-12X,Weaver low rings on a Weaver rail.
Very accurate and the short-throw lever is fast.

Here is the wife's squirrel rifle - a 1965 Marlin 39A Mountie, with a Redfield 2-7X32 with Redfield Tip-off rings on the factory rail. I prefer to mount my scopes as low as possible and may go to the Weaver 90 rail and low Weaver rings instead of the current setup.

The stock on this gun has been shortened to fit the wife, ergo the rubber pad extension when I'm messing with it.

I used an older Marlin factory mount on my 39-A. It seems to be a shade lower in profile than the Weaver M-90 rail. Current set-up is a Marlin 400-A 4 X 32 in low mount steel Weaver clamshell rings. Seems to work very well for me. I gotta get pix taken, and a disc made to get the photo's up...

My most used firearms are Marlin 39s. Great for targets, plinking and little critters that need shootin. I'm blessed with two, 39A & 39TDS and want (need?) more (mountie at least).

Here are mine
