I've had one misfire (?) with a 94 .30-30 using Highland ammo. The strike was light for whatever reason and I put the round aside. Next time out I tried it again..fired OK and this time the usual deep dent in the primer. The problem has not occurred since.
BTW, I've found that my rifle likes Highland - good accuracy and CHEAP !!

aussieslicko,
Sounds like improperly stored ammo, and moisture, oil or solvent entered the primer and made it inert. It could also be heat deterioration. I've fired properly stored ammunition that is over 60 years old, and it still fired and was just as accurate as when originaly loaded.
