Don't know if this has been posted before but thought I'd pass it along.

Is it just me or does it seem like Remington has more recalls than everyone else put together

I can only think of two, one was the older model 700's to fix the safety so you could cycle the action to unload it without taking the safety off like the newer rifles and the 710 which should have been recalled just because of how ugly it is. Was there others?

my mistake, I lumped the 870 class action law suit in with that, was there another class action suit as well?

I believe the M700 recall was in response to a class action lawsuit. I'm not sure if that suit is still pending or not.

What are the details on the 870?

Its probably been 10 or 12 years ago, If I remember correctly it had something to do with the strength of barrel steel or the steel used in the action, it just seems to me like all of the problems out there are with the remingtons.

In the past 3 or 4 years, we've seen recalls from Ruger (can't remember exactly what it was for), Winchester (safeties were turning color), Sako (barrels going KA-BOOM!), Remington (safety), Smith & Wesson (safeties on their new 1911's), and I'm sure there were more.

I think people have been most vocal about the Remington because there is still controversy over their trigger design and their recall was more of a "campaign" that was only posted on their website. It also affected more guns, from the 721 and 722 through the current M700's. Remington had also denied any problems for years, then issued the campaign.

The ruger was for the single action pistols wasn't it? And now that you mention it, I do remember the Sako recall. The winchester and s&w are new to me. I guess I am just prejudiced against remingtons (although, it can't be too bad, I own a 870 and a 788) What really cracks me up is you can buy winchester/mauser style safety's and Sako style extractors for the 700, but there aren't any parts that I can think of that you buy as aftermarket that are modeled after the 700 e.g. nobody is buying a M700 style saftey for thier M70
