Hi, I was looking to tag along with some hunters in my area this fall and hopfuly learn somethings. I am going to practice with my rifle as often as I can until fall. I just dont really have anyone to go hunting with at the moment and also don't know where to hunt. If anyone was looking for a hunting buddy, Im up for grabs.

wilkinkc, I wish I could completly help you out, but my class schedule virtually assures that I won't have the time to hunt this season.

However; as far as an area to start researching, I would suggest the Cedar Creek district of the Mark Twain forest sytem. The area to the north of New Bloomfield offers some fairly decent-open to the public hunting. After opening weekend, and during the week days this area is usually fairly devoid of other hunters.

Anouther portion of this land is located to the south of Highway 54 off of state rd PP. There are two pieces of state ground in this area one is around 1500 acreas and the other is only about 200. Ive hunted turkey, and small game on both of these sites several times, and have seen no other hunters. You'll have to find yourself a deer cart because all of these areas do not allow vehicles on them.

For archery hunting, my hands down pick is the 7500 acreas surrounding the Callaway County Power Plant. There is considerable crop ground in this area and I've seen some wopper bucks in there. They do offer limited draw only muzzle loader tags but your past the dead line for the draw.

Anouther public draw area you might try for next year is the Wet Stone Conservation area off of I70 by Williamsburg. Again alot of crop gound, and I've seen good numbers of deer in this area. Be sure to stop in at Crane's Store on your way there for a ham sandwich and a look around. You'll be glad you did.

Hope something here helps you, and again I'm sorry I can't be of more help to you. You probably allready realize that finding a hunting partner this late in the game is gonna be dificult, so my advise is to read up all you can, get yourself a Gazeteer, call the Conservation agency, and go out there and and give it a try.Good luck! PM me if you have any further questions.

I hope something here helps you
