i've got my grandad's model 94 30-30 that was manufactured in 64. i dont want to make any heavy mods too it, so if i need to do that to get what i want, i'll probobly end up with a brand new one.

i'm looking at improving the sights. i've seen popup peep sights and the sights that mount on the side of the gun that rest just above the slide. what are these called?

i looked at a lever gun this evening and the guy was telling me for what i want, i should look into a 1x scope to throw on a brandnew seutp. $500 later and i'll be ready to take game at 100-200 yards. in the end, i'd like to have a gun i can drop a coyote or west texas boar at 100yards.

if i can make the old school gun do it, without drilling her, i'm open for suggestions. otherwise, what would you suggest i do in the line of a newer model 94 in the 30-30 caliber?

I've used Williams 5D (I think) aperature sights with great success on my lever guns. My old pre 64 Winchester has a Lyman 66 rear aperature and a Lyman globe type front sight. I do not know if it had to be drlled however as I inherited the gun fronm my g'pa. The Williams mounted right up to my 336A and my post 64 Winchester AE (to which I mounted a Lyman globe front sight). I love 'em and with the variety of sight discs available with different aperture diameters you can set yourself up for any type of lighting conditions. I'm only a paper puncher at this point, but even at 100 yards I think I'd have a scope set up, at least 4X, if I were hunting-

You will improve your "sight line", BTW, as the new rear sight mounts to the rear of the reciever, thus increasing your sight radius.
