Hi All
I need your advise. I just bought a Williams FP peep sight with target knobs for my Winchester 94 Buffalo Bill in 30-30. My question is if I will be able to use the current front sight with the new Williams peep sight or will I have to get a different height for the front sight ? The barrel is an octagon barrel of 26 inches long and no taper. If I do need to change, what would be the right height ?

Usually will need a higher front sight as the Williams often sits higher (even at the lowest cetting).

Maybe some one here can help...or I'll eventaully dig out the old equation...but there is a way of figuring the height of front sight needed by knowing (1) the distance between the front and rear sights (sight radius) (2) the distance to the target (3) the amount of change desired.

Know it's simple geomeer...angles...but it's been about 45 years between math classes for me and it just didn't stick.

I just added a Williams FP to my Ledgendary Frontiersman in 38-55 and I used a lower front sight. I 1st left the original front sight on and I had to raise the Rear FP sight about 3/4 up to hit 2inches high at 50yds. I installed the front Fire sight that came with it and was able to lower the rear sight back down to just under the middle markings. Initallly It was hitting about 10ins low at 50yds with the sight set in the middle. If I remember the markings the firesight is about .030 shorter than the Winchester factory front sight.
Hope this helps....

I ordered a williams FP sight yesterday. I called their customer service people because of the front sight height. The rep said that I needed the tallest front sight they offer for my trapper length 94.

I would call the factory if you have questions.

Would it be possible to make some sort of sight height calculator? Just a thought.

I haven't checked recently but Brownell's catalog use to provide a formula for that calculation. I bought a Lyman 66 for a 24" barreled Marlin and I was amazed that how much taller front sight I needed to make the combo work.

I believe mine needed a .530 front. I was a little amazed also.
