This is just some information about the new Remington 7600 pump action rifles, made from the year 2003 to the present time.
I own two older model 760 Remingtons, and just purchased a new 7600.
I was suprised to see that the standard factory open sights on the newer 7600 will not line up vertically at all when the rifle is shouldered. The front blade sits way too high, with the cheek resting on the high comb of the butt stock.
This makes it impossible to get the shooters head down far enough to get a proper sight picture, and bring the front sight down vertically.
My gun dealers tell me Remington figures shooters will scope their new 7600's and forget using the factory sights.
I called Williams Gun Sights, and they verified this, and sell a set of their open sights that replace the factory ones and cures this problem. For rifles made after 2003 of course.
Williams sights for the post 2003 7600 rifle are part number #70267.

It really is impossible to create a stock that is perfect for scoped use and for iron sights. Has to be one or other, or some terrible compromise. Remington is aware that most of their customers would likely scope their centerfire rifles and made the stocks accordingly.

If Williams is making sights that fit this Remington rifle then why can't Remington make sights to fit their rifles ? JAGG

Most likely would interfere with mounting the scope.

It's not the sights that are the problem, but the stock. Most scopes, even small ones have the crosshairs between 1.25 and 2 inches for the larger bells above the centerline of the barrel. Open sights on the other hand are much lower. The way to correct this is put a buttstock on that allows you to use the open sights, then add one of the slipon pieces to raise your head for the scope.

This was the answer folks used for years and years when scopes were becoming popular.

That gets back to my first response. Most manufacturers today are designing stocks for shooters to put scopes on the rifles. Either build the rifle/stock combo so that it is scope friendly or build it to use iron sights. Can't do both and do it right.
