I heard these terms "post or pre ban" thrown around a lot describing semi auto rifles of the military style. Are certain guns pre or post ban better in quality or offer benefits to be distinguished when these terms are used?
Thanks,
Dan
Post and Pre refer to military firearms imported/built either prior to the Assault Weapon Ban (AWB) that was passed in the Klinton era at the urging of the anti-gun lobby.
Certain items were considered to be grossly non-PC by the group, namely, bayonets, bayonet lugs, grenade launchers, full pistol grips, and so on.
Post ban imports/built rifles came without these hidous attachments and were considered pristine enough to allow the American shooter to buy one until they figured out a way to completely ban ALL imports/manufactured "thug guns".
The Bush administration and congress has let the AWB expire under the mandatory 10 year "Sunset" law without renewing it. You may once again own these military imports/built firearms with all the glorified attachments to kill and maim.
If you are looking at the difference between a post/pre ban AR it's pretty simple. Post ban style will have no flash hider, often replaced with a muzzle break, and no bayonet lug. Pre ban style will have the above items. If you like to shoot from the prone, a flash hider or plain barrel is a good deal...a muzzle break that aims any of the gas down IS NOT.
