Covers black powder well.

Since most muzzleloaders today are using bp substitutes, wonder how this correlates?

Have always found the best accuracy and ignition in my bp's when using real black powder and not substitutes. 'Course, just hate the cleaning process, so don't do as much of this type shooting anymore! :p

Read it and it covers the subject. I don't agree with him on all his points, being more of a fan of FFg than FFFG in 50caliber or over (and Fg in 12ga. or 10ga.).

Looking over the published pressure data and from experimenits, in front loaders using black powder that are 54cal; or larger, have found an odd occurance.

Takes MORE FFg to ge to the same vel. as FFFG, but from the published data, the peak pressure is LOWER. Scratch head...mumble...wonder...buring more weight and getting less pressure...seems wrong somwhow....but that's what Lyman shows in several cases. Same relationship between FFg and Fg in 1oga. seems to be present.

So long as there isn't a case or a cylinder to limit the length of the possible powder charge, then I tend to go with the corse stuff.

Its probably burning speed. The 3f reaches higher pressures quicker and may peak in the barrel sooner. The 2f is slower and acts longer on the bullet giving a higher speed.
