Hi everyone,

My name is Sean and I have recently purchased my first Winchester 1894 in 30 WCF. Its a 1916 manufacture carbine. The blue is all gone from the receiver, leaving that neat 'old silver dollar' finish but the barrel has retained both its blue and rifling.

The stock, which I am sure is original, has unfortunately not been treated as well as the rest of the rifle. It looks like it got a life of hard use followed by a failed attempt to refinish it (it looks like it got sanded more than it should as the buttplate sticks out a bit now) followed by a bad varnishing. Needless to say, I got the old girl cheap because of that stock, and replacing it is a priority for me.

My question though is where to get a good replacement stock and fore end for this. I have been told that Precision gun works does the best reproductions of stocks for the pre-64's. Is this true?

Secondly, I am not sure what kind of stock I need. The buttplate is not just a plastic plate, but a metal one with a little top lip.

Can anyone help confirm for me where I can get a good walnut replacement stock for my 1894 and what kind?

Thanks

Sean
