Does anyone on the forum have one of these yet? I seen this one on the Winchester web site and liked what I saw and read. Have they been out long enough to be in the gun shops?

I dont have one but I'm looking at them. I wanted a Pack Rifle but did not move fast enough!
I have a 16" Trapper in .30-30 with a forward mounted 2.5X scope that I like very much. I would like to have another 16" .30-30 to play with and to ream to the Improved chamber. Just to compare the before and after.
I never saw a Pack Rifle when they were available and have not seen a Timber Scout either.
I have a .444 timber Rifle that I like very much except for the barrel ports. you can say I'm sold on the configuration. The Timber Scout looks "ready to hunt" right out of the box.
[Edit] You would think a guy with a good camera would have a decent picture of one of his favorite guns... Here is and cropped picture of my Timber rifle and Trapper. [Edit]

Slim
That new Timber Scout looks like it might have more potential for accuracy beings it doesn't have the barrel bands. You wouldn't have those to contend with. What do you think?

Photos are fine - they get the job done. What is the base you have for the 2.5X? I'm looking for one for a pre '64. Thanks...Y

Cant make the picture small enough to attach. I'll work with it tomorrow on the picture program.

I've been looking for one of these in gun shops for months now. I'm not sure why they are taking so long to get out...considering that they were supposed to be out much earlier in the year.
I've only seen 2 to date on gunbroker.com...and they only lasted a few minutes before disappearing.
One theory I have is that gun dealers are trying to sell off their existing stock in lever-action 44 mag before stocking this new model.
It has been such a long time since someone made an effort to update the 44 magnum lever-action platform...it's nice to see some change in this area.

I was out at Sportsman's Warehouse yesterday looking at pistols and asked about the new Timber Scout. They didn't have any either. I would think that with hunting season right here at the door that stores like Spotsman's would have these. I am not sure if the problem is the supply from Winchester or as you say the stores are not ordering them. With the features this gun has I think it will be a hot seller. If possible I would like to have one myself in 30-30 Win and I already have a Marlin 336C in that caliber.

I removed the pictures above and added one here.
I have been wondering what you decided?
The Burris forward mount is a pretty good mount for rifles at the .30-30 recoil level. For anything above that I believe it would shoot loose in time. The windage adjustment on the base are pretty helpful.

William,
I will have to put the Timber Scout on the back burner for now as I have had to replace my S&W 357 Mag pistol. It developed a crack in the forcing cone. My wife purchased me a new Ruger GP100 for Christmas this year. I would still like to get the Timber Scout at a later time. Does your gun shoot good?

I never saw a Pack Rifle and have never seen a Timber Scout either. I wonder how many of the Pack Rifles were made.
While not readily visable in this picture my Trapper has a rusty hand print on the reciever. The result of the former owner placing it in a gun bag without wiping it down. The stock has been refinished with some sort of glossy finish.
I installed a Marbles flat top folding open rear sight and hunted it that way in thick brush. When the Lyman No. 2 Tang sight came out I installed one of them and was very happy.
Someone had the Burris mount on sale and I bought it just for a quick trial. I purcheased the cheap BSA pistol scope on sale from Midway with the thought that I would not use it very long. After two hunting seasons I finaly removed the Tang sight and installed a plug screw in its hole. The large cross hairs of the pistol scope are quick in the changing light of thick brush. They also show up reasonably well in the last light of day. The scope does not change the balance of the rifle and it is very easy to use with both eyes open.
I would probably not want the forward scope as my only rifle but I enjoy it as an additional rifle. The set up begins to come up short in failing light at the end of the day - a little better than iron sights but not a real advantage.
Shooting from the bench the rifle is as good as any of my lever actions. I use large black squares on a white background and aim for the corners. This way the thick cross hairs are not a problem.
Comparing the Trapper against the 26" barrel rifle has been an eye opener. The Trapper gives up a lot of velocity compared to the rifle. I have never taken a shot at any great distance so my hunting results with the Trapper have never left me wanting more power. The Trapper kills deer well inside 100 yards. I prefer the 170 grain bullets. There are others here who can put up a convincing argument for the 150 grain bullets. Still others have written of superior results with the 130 grain Speer bullet. My experiance with the 130 grain Speer on our smaller white tail deer at close range has been very good and it may well be the best jacketed bullet for the Trapper.

Talkin over todays shooting made me realise I may have given you a wrong impession with this statement.
When you get your short rifle start a thread about it and we can talk abou different powder selction and bullets weights to optimize your performance from the short barrel.
