With improvements coming all the time, I wonder how long it will take to get a red dot scope on the market with magnification? I'd like a 2X or a 4X if it were available. Don't you think with the # of lighted scopes in 3x9 etc., that they would have a magnifying red dot soon???

They're already here.

Check out Tasco and several other makers.

Got a BSA 6 thru 24 that has a duplex red reticle that lights up just like my aimpoint. There are lots of others too.

Appreciate the good info! Cabela's doesn't have the Truglo on the website, but they'll have the 2X 30mm in the fall catalog, and are taking orders now. I'll be happy to get mine and try 'er out at the range soon.

UPDATE: Not really that thrilled with the Truglow. Can't seem to dial it in even at 25 yds. I'm trying diligently to sight from the same point on the stock (bench rested of course) but the sight seems to move around too much. I'm really not sure if it's worth keeping at this point.

If you mean the dot seems to move around in the field of view - this is the way the red dots work. Just put the dot on target, no matter where it appears in the field of view and you should be on target. This, of course, is after having it properly sighted in.

I understand that phenom. -- but I can't get a consistent group; seems very inconsistent -- up/down left right, no reason to it unless maybe the magnification of it creates the inconsistency? Your thoughts Kdub???

Have no experience with a magnified red dot, so can't say for sure.

If you get the same sight picture and are doing the proper breathing/squeezing/follow-through, then maybe there's something wrong with the scope.

Check to assure all the nuts and bolts are tight first, though. Also, if the dot is variable, find one setting and leave it there to do your adjustments.

Let us know how it works out - magnified red dots are still a novelty to us.

UPDATE: Took it back to the range and tried again. I remounted the scope forward, and seem to have this figured out. I am very pleased with the results. At this writing the eye relief that seems to work best for me is nearly a full 8 inches, and much improved my accuracy. Shooting the .22 short on my T/C I'm hitting 1/2" groups at 25 yards again, which is what I can do with the iron sights. I also made sure that I kept the bore clean between groups. The rails which fit on my williams scope base are somewhat interesting-- of the two bolts, only the rear one fits in the scope base slot and is lower you'll find. The front one just squeezes tight across. Hope that helps-- happy shooting!

I'd be interested to see if anyone would like this dot on a handgun (hunting caliber) In a T/C or single action maybe? Any thoughts post it.
Thanks!

JDJ,
I wonder if your "inaccuracy" problem had to do with the relative size of the dot to your eye. That is the normal problem with red dot sights for precision shooting anyway - the dot often subtends too much of the target to be really precise. Moving the unit away from your eye reduced the (apparent) size of the dot. Whether or not the red-dot unit you have has magnification, this would still be true.

I might be mistaken - perhaps this wasn't the cause - but I have a strong feeling that it was.

I hade the same question and found out about Shirstone. They have red dot scopes with different magnifications. The scope I bought was a 30mm, 1.7-5x24 with 11 intesity levels for the red dot. I have looked around and there are no other make that have that kind of scope... I think you can check it out at www.shirstone.us
