It looks like an old Sako. I think you can get some info here: SakoCollectorsClub@groups.msn.com

Belive it is a SAKO...but the Browning serial number stie lists F.N and Sake...evidiently there were some Brownings made with Sako actions in the late 1950's.

The Browning "Professional Hunter" or "Safari" series were made on FN Mauser type actions for many years. At one time, there was a switch to using Sako actions, is my understanding. I don't know what the dates were.

The Browning Safari Grade rifles were manufactured between 1959 and 1974 by FN in Belgium. The earliest models in .243 and .308 utilized the Mauser small ring action. At sometime, probably in the early 60's they switched to the SAKO action. After 1969 the serial numbers had a letter prefix followed by a two digit number indicating year of manufacture, ie: Y69.
You made a great buy at $275. Rifles in 95% condition or better are highly collectable. Take care to not degrade the condition of your rifle.

Sorry fellas, I found it. Its a Browning High-Power, Safari grade, Medium action. Its the only one that comes in 243. It is made by Sako from 1963-1974. Thats what I have in my book anyway. All the others either don't have sights and don't come in 243. If you look at the trigger guard you can see it is a Sako trigger guard. Value is over $700.00. Very good find there Rockmutt.
The one hj44magnum was talking about is a safari grade standard action and it is available in 308 and was made by FN Mauser from 1959-1974. This one os valued at over $900.00.
