I quite often take a Roo for dog meat & my stepson who is 11 loves to give a hand when it comes to the butchering stage (his fond of shooting one as well ) But Tonight I've got him to do the whole prosses from shooting to Dressing & I must say I'm impressed! Considering that only 4yrs ago this kid had never been out of the city! It's amazing the transformation that country living produces! :)

Good on you, Dave! :D

Glad the lad is taking an active interest in the whole process.

Years ago, took my oldest daughter (8 at the time) small game hunting. She did OK until I had to field dress a rabbit. Guess the thought of butchering a cute little bunny was too much for her. Never wanted to go with Dad again.

I'd like to think that the lad will continue the "family Biz " When his a little older (so I can finaly retire) I have a 9yr old step daughter who is dead keen to go out hunting like her Brother! I have a little Remmington 1906 Boys rifle .22lr that she's practiceing with at the moment! The funiest thing was her watching as her Brother did the dressing & when she made mention that he was doing a good Job of Cutting the meat! He replied that he was butchering! Not Cutting!& she would be well advised to remember that!!!! Talk about out of the mouth of Babes!

Very cool, Dave. ;)
Hope to train up my kids too.
I have a Remington Model 6 in .22lr waiting for the boys to grow up and as soon as it starts shooting straight it'll be a real cracker as a beginning rifle.

A whole new lease on life and a whole 'nother reason for second mortgage. :D
My purchases over the next few years are going to geared toward setting myself and my kids up for shooting.
Incidentally, if I haven't already said, #2 is due mid-November and looks like a boy as per the ultrasound. ;)
Anyhow, I think I can already see the day when Bryn, #1 son, will lust after the biggest rifle Daddy owns.
If he's built like I am recoil is unlikely to be an issue.
I'm 6' 3" and 106kg so if he follows in his Daddy's footsteps he'll be handling big bores by the time he's 14. :(
Perhaps I'll buy an action for each of them and slowly build up a rifle for each of them to give them for their 16th birthday, letting them choose their own cartridge. :)
Meanwhile, they'll have to put up with their father's less orthodox taste in rifles......... :p

Mate take my advise & never let them see what you've got in the safe ! I lost a 310 that I had stashed for a rainy day for converstion! I came home from work one morning & was putting My work rifle away & the young bloke wandered in to see me & discuss how the night had gone ! He loked into the safe having never seen what I had in there & spoted the Cadet! Of course he askedwhat it was & in a moment of weakness & tiredness I explained what it was & how my first "Big Game" rifle had been a Cadet!Since then it has cost me Dies, Moulds ectThat was just the start He then went through & took possetion of any thing he thought he'd like to try !!!!!!  :eek:Of course I've tried to discourage him  Before the bug gets him but I fear I'm to late :D

The little swine has outshot me at western action a couple of times (mind you it would help if Dad did'nt "miss" as often as he does ;) )
