Finally, Winchester in their third month of back order on the new Model 94 Legacy 38-55 got two guns into my local gun store where I had a deposit on one. I got the 26 inch octagon barrell in solid blue. The wood is fairly plain but the wood to metal fit is good. The Marbles rear tang sight seems a little loose with some front to back play.

My question is this. Does anyone else have one of these yet. I would really like to know if you have slugged the barrel to see the size so I can order the proper fit cast bullet from Beartooth. I called Winchester but they were no help. They just said that their rifles were made to spec. without giving me the actual bore diameter. If I have to I'll go to my local gunsmith to have this done. I wonder if each barrell is different depending on what time of day the barrell was drilled.

Any help would be appreciated.

I have one of these on order so I called Winchester myself and asked about bore diameter and the customer rep told me that the bore is .379 and the lands .373.

Muddy Flats,

I have one exactly as you describe, except the wood is fairly nice. The lands are .373 and the groves are .379. Concerning the Marbles sight, mine had the same problem with too much forward and rear movement when in the up position. Here is the remedy.

Punch out the drift pin holding the windage knob in place and remove the knob. Unscrew the bolt that holds the elevation assembly and remove the entire assembly. You will then see a flat formed spring in the base of the sight. It can be removed by very little pressure or by turning the unit upside down. The tension (movement) problem is caused by the fact that the crown on the spring is not contacting the base of the elevation assembly very good. Take a pair of pliers and bend the spring slightly - effectively raising the crown up. It does not take much pressure at all and don't over do it. Then reassemble in reverse order. If you have trouble getting the windage bolt back into the elevation assembly, you may have bent the spring a little too much.

Most customers report best accuracy with these rifles using .3795" or .380" bullets. Our .375 caliber bullets can be sized to these dimensions, just give us a call and tell us what you need!

Muddy Flats, glad you finally received your rifle! They've been in vary scarce supply.

God bless,
