i really want to play with a 10mm. let me hear the pro's and cons of a glock 20/29 verses a smith 1006/1076 besides the smith is no longer made. thanks dave
Don't forget the Kimber 1911 in 10mm and the Dan Wesson, which is now owned by CZUSA. The downside of a Glock, depending on what type of shooting you want to do is the trigger, same for the S&W, although the Smith is much better than a Glock for precision work, having a single action trigger pull once the hammer is cocked. EAA also offers the 10mm in the CZ75 clones, as well a higher end "hunting" model with a longer barrel at a higher price.
If you want the power to hunt deer sized game with an auto pistol the 10mm has it, for defense type shooting I think it's a little more than is needed when loaded to it's capability. But that is one of it's benefits, you can load it like a .40 S&W (comparativley weak, good for defense), or load it up to the lower end of .41 Mag factory ammo power levels. (hunting type load)
Between the two you mention, I'd take the Smith...but I don't much care for Glocks so I'm biased.

Hi,
Unlike kcih, i do not reject the Glock for its trigger.
First, you can lighten the trigger with the Glock.
Then, with a little getting used to, the Glocks trigger seems to be more efficient than the DA trigger of the Smiths.
With all the Glocks, accuracy (even with the standard trigger) is exceptional given the price and simplicity of this guns.
I wont start a Glock vs Smith&Wesson or whatever gun threat, but i simply must admit that the Glocks reliability, simplicity and accuracy for its price tag is hard to beat.
Although being a handgun collector, i certainly not only have Glocks.
On the other side, the Smith is way more nice to look at and in my opinion more comfortable to shoot, but you should have a trigger job done on it, because the 3rd generation S&W pistols (if not from the Performance Center) have creepy SA triggers. DA is ok.
The 1006 i've used was averagely accurate, not as good as the 1911 from that same maker.
Yes there are also other guns for the 10mm, some 1911 clones will do the job, too.

If you really want to play...find one of the old Ruger Blackhawks in 10mm. They came w/ a 38-40 cylinder also.
You can really load 'em up because cartridge OAL is not an issue.

My shooting pard who has a 10mm Glock almost never finds once-fired leftover brass at our range. In fact, he loses cases when he shoots his Glock. He finally took my advice and bought a Springfield .45 ACP and is he happy he did! He is bringing home boxes of clean, once-fired brass, enough to service all of the competitions that he competes in and it's all for free. :p
