Hey guys,

I bought a gunslick cleaning kit for my 9mm a while ago, and I am about to buy a .44 mag revolver. I was wondering, do I have to buy a whole new pistol cleaning kit, or could I only buy the brush and patch puller, and use the same cleaning rod? Will these pieces fit into my existing rod?

thanks,

Most American smokeless powder cleaning kits use the same 8-32 thread for their brushes and jags. Some muzzleloader tools use the larger 10-32 thread and shotgun tools use the considerably larger .300-27 thread. If you're stuck there's an adapter kit that Uncle Mike's makes, was p/n# 2906-0, $10.

The English Parker-Hale tools use a unique sized thread, but adapters are available. Last week I put a .50 cal. muzzleloader brush on a Parker-Hale pistol rod to clean the .35 Remington chamber. It took two adapters, but it worked well.

Bye

Buy an Otis cleaning system, Cleans and lubes all parts, the wife will have no idea what your doing, it doesn't stink out your house, and is ready to go into the field. The last cleaning kit I'll ever have to buy! Does both handgun and rifle. Patches and additional lube are very resonable I do finish my semi-auto's with Breakfree. Can't say enough about these products. JP

I recently bought a Hoppes carbon-fiber or grapite rod for my handguns that is about 8" long with the ball bearings in the handle. Didn't cost much and works great, so far. I also use a set of Tipton brass cleaning jags, 17 up to 45cal, and have the brass brushs for each caliber. This works for me.

Will these pieces fit into my existing rod?If your cleaning kit is American made, odds are very good that all you will have to purchase is a new .44/.45 brush, a .44 jag tip, and possibly some flannel patches to clean your .44 mag revolver. I have two Smith & Wesson pistol rods and those parts are all I ever bought to service 9mm, .38/.357, .44-40, .44 Special, .45 ACP, and .45 Colt. Of course if you are rich like all of us, you can purchase a separate cleaning kit for each caliber that you shoot. ;)

Marshal,

Did your smiths come with a cleaning kit when you bought them?

Marshal,

Did your smiths come with a cleaning kit when you bought them?Yes, all my S&Ws include a cleaning kit in a plastic bag containing the cleaning rod, mop, and brush. Since I am "thrifty" :D I only opened two of my S&W cleaning kits and have left the others intact for future collector value. I don't know if S&W still includes the cleaning kit but I hope they continue to do so.
