Firearms are allowed on federal land, I've shot many animals on Federal land, and I've done a lot of recreational shooting on Federal land.

Now if you were poaching or otherwise illeagally killing any animal on federal land, then you are pretty much fd. Typically they prevent you from ever buying a tag again, take away your rifles, maybe spend a little time in prison... definetly not enjoyable...

There are numerous "federal" lands were our rights are denied. National monuments, some parks and preservers. I just don't go there. As for your question about being there and being armed or worse yet using a firearm, do you think anyone is going to tell you about that, it's a crime!!!!

I've killed a bunch of bear with a handgun, most of them on federal land and all legally. The outcome, Bear roast, bear steak, bear sasuage. Used a 44 mag and 41 mag, Smith and Wesson and Ruger double actions. Shot one Brown bear in Alaska with a 44 mag, choice was to run and leave it chewing on my fishing partner or try to help him. Thank god it worked. Most State and federal agencies won't object to killing an animal to protect your's or someone elses life.

Anyway bayrunner I'm a little confused by your question. What are your really trying to find out? Is it ok to break the law? Is it ok to shoot bears whom are on federally protected land? Is it ok to shoot them with a revolver/pistol? What do you really want to know?

Bayrunner,

I too have harvested my share of black bear with a handgun over the years. They were all taken on public land during regular open big game seasons and with ethical hunting methods. I consider hunting black bear with a handgun to be a very satisfying challenge.
