You can see the tuffs on the ears like a bobcat/lynx but she/he has a long tail. Looks like a small mountain lion. Est. weight is 20-25 lbs and about 24" long from nose to hunches, tail add another 12-16".

Desert Fox in Iraq, trapped by same pond. Its a young lean fox that might go 5 lbs. Appearently it's hunting abilities isn't as keen as the cat's. Unforunitly for the animals that they would more then likely be destroyed. Seen Jackels and rabbits last year and knew of the cats and foxes but never saw them. Have also seen some owls in the evening.

Interesting picturees, and yes, looks like life is hard in the desert.

Appreciate the pictures and hope everything is well with you and your comrades and I can't tell you how much I think about the sacrifice and contribution you're making. You'd think people that have freedom would better understand the why's and wherefore's of this action.

I think the cat's called a caracal. Thats what it looks like, anyway.

Believe it or not, it looks more like a Jungle cat ( I know, where is the jungle? ). Among other places, they thrive in the deserts of SWA. They are found from China through Egypt.

Be that as it may, I know it is awfully nice to see something alive out in seemingly dead desert. I remember the first time I saw wild camels, I was pretty sure I was being treated to a "it's not so bad, see? There ARE things that choose to live here". Saw a few of the foxes but never any cats. Too bad they had to be trapped - were they being a nuisance?

Stay well guarded/guard well!

We had foxes like that who lived under the trailers in our living area in Tikrit. They looked about as healthy as the ones in the pics.
