Is the Mossberg Model 500 "Pursader" w/ factory barrel capable of firing slugs or not. I'm not a shotgun and I don't know how a ribbed barrel looks like. Is it like the rifling twist in a pistol or a rifle? Any of you guy's out there know?

Thanks.

I'm not quite sure what your asking. Mossberg pump shotguns with a ribbed barrel means the barrel has a rib on the outside with the sights attatched to it. Shotgun manufactures make basically two kinds of barrels.

A smoothbore that is smooth inside without any rifling in it. It will shoot shot and slugs and rifled barrels that are designed to shoot slugs. Rifled barrels have rifling inside just like a rifle that spins the slugs which makes them more accurate than a smoothbore barrel.

Most all smoothbore barrels with a fairly open choke will shoot slugs and the rifled barrels are designed to shoot slugs and will give poor performance with shot because of the spin put on the shot cup.

For short range protection purposes a short barreled smoothbore with double ought buck is the best defense weapon. If your looking for bear protection in Alaska slugs work good from the same gun at close range.

I hope this helps you some.

A persuader will shoot slugs. A persuador will not be rifled, as it comes from the factory. Rib has nothing to do with rifling. Confused.
