Gentlemen,
My 12ga RBs arrived today (thanks so much Marshall), now I'm ready to experiment. Looking for load ideas, never messed with RBs before.
Can I use 1oz or 1 1/8oz data with the RB instaed of shot?
Can I use slug data?
Any PET loads?
Any different types of wad?
I had even thought about attaching a wad permantently to the base of the RB, like some commercial loads.
I have win, rem & fed hulls. Various win wads. Mostly Hodgdon powders.
Any help is appreciated.

What diameter are the RB's ? Are you shooting a smoothbore? You want to take up as much spase in the bore to have the slug centered as possible. Wads did not work too well. Depending on the diameter, you can use Teflon wraps to wrap the ball in the case, and buffer to stabilize the ball. Shot loads can be used, the pressure will be less WITHOUT THE BUFFER. Do not swap loads with buffer to start, they can be worked up. I use a load that is heavier by 1/4oz to start generally. I also try to use slowere single base powders, such as IMR 7625 and IMR 4756. I have had luck with other double base powders, but it is better to keep it simple to start. I have some pressure tested loads for 615 grain hollow base slugs, that may be applicable. What kind of velocity are you looking for? Greg S

Greg,
Thanks for the input. My RBs are .690", they weigh about 1 1/8oz. I'm using them out of a smoothbore, Mossberg M835, modified choke.
I was thinking about using 1 1/8oz or 1 1/4oz shot data with the hulls/wads I have and go from there. These RBs actually fit quite good inside the WAA12 wad, may try 1 1/8oz data with that wad.
Wadda you think?

The wads take up the space in the bore, but they tend to shear off a petal in the forcing cone. The ball can then cause a flier, when it hits the one side and not the other. You also should use a soft filler in the wad to support the ball. In a cylinder bore, I would try a .730-.735 Alox lubed ball, cast from wheelweight. Remember, the simpler the load, the better off it generally is in a slug gun. Greg

Is that the standard 835 barrel that comes with the gun?
If so it is overbored, it is 10 Ga in size not 12.
If so it is marked on it not to use slugs.
I personaly can not see why you couldn't if they were made to fit your bore/choke size, but I wrote and asked Mossberg and they said not to use anything except birdshot/buckshot, no slugs or solids of any kind unless you get a slug barrel. So I ended up getting a Mossberg 500 to use with slugs.
On the Mossberg site this is what they have to say.

Can I fire slugs through my 835® vent rib, Accu-Mag® choke tube barrel? No, 835 field barrels (those with a ventilated rib) are "overbored", the extra inside diameter may cause the projectile to "wobble" producing unreliable accuracy. A projectile may wedge inside the barrel causing an obstruction. Obstructions of any kind can cause damage to the firearm resulting in personal injury. Dedicated smoothbore or fully rifled slug barrels are available for the Model 835®. Other 835® Accu-Mag® Choke Tube notes: Buckshot and steel-shot loads are not recommended for use with an Extra Full Turkey tube installed.

Gentlemen: The "No Slugs" warning is aimed at hollow based foster type slugs. In the overbored barrel, propellant gas may get into the hollow cavity. This could cause the thin walls of the pure lead slug to separate from the thicker nose section and form an obstruction. This cannot happen with a simple round ball in a shot cup.
What the accuracy of such a combination would be is anyone's guess.
