I found several cans of 4895 that I had experimented with in my 357 Whelen. I looked in the Speer #10 and found this as a starting load for use in the Marlin and Winchester 1886 using their 405 jacket slug.
Anybody tries this in their rifle?

I don't use it because it's too slow burning. Lyman's47 list 50gr to start and a compressed 59 top.  Velocity only 1800. Might be worth a whirl for hogs.  The pressures are quite low and I've seen loads using this for the Trapdoor. Beats feeding it to the worms I guess.

I'll use it up. Then switch back to the RL-7.
Have you tried any of the Accurate Arms powders?

It's good for 500 grainers, though. doug

Yes, try using some of the Accurate 2015!  It is superb in these straight walled cartridges.   Maybe not for absolute top velocities, but very consistent in burning uniformity and accuracy is top notch!

Blessings,

Hey Marshall Thanks!
I've been using 2025 maybe 2026, in the 375 with great results, I think that's the number. I'll need to run out to the reloading shop and have a look.
