I plan to hunt with my GICarbine this upcoming Fall,so I replaced the Weaver K2.5 with a red dot sight. The red dot sight looks and feels better on that little gun.It also fits right into the aame rings as the scope did.
I shot it at the range today. It did just fine;but, the sight is offset (not over the bore)and the reticle appears close to the edge of the lens.Three of my favorite guns have offset sights (Krag,Win '94, & 30 Carbine, and I never hd this problem.
The red dot is an inexpensive(chheap)one;not even waterproof, but plenty good for the rang.
I think that,in a hunting situation,this 'out of position'reticle would be a distraction.I ain't the best hunter now;I don't need this.
Does anyone know if a better grade red dot would keep the reticle more centered, like scopes do?
Also,Wallmart has a neat little scope. It's a Tasco 2x(I think)for less then 50 bucks.Does anyone have any experience with this scope?I'm not a big fan of Tasco, but I have had good luck with cheaper scopes.
Thanks,
Frank

Hello,again
Forget that old sight.I'm going to upgrade to something better.I also replaced my mount with one of the same make, that has windage adjustments.
I see that Midway has a Millet sight for $106. Would that be a go0d buy? Does anyone have any suggestions?
thanks,
Frank

i would guess that the dot not being centered in the reddot is from the mounts putting the scope into a position that makes it difficult to put your eye directly in line with the scope. a better mount system should cure this. many dot sights will have parallax issues when the dot is near the edge of the field of view, despite many claims that dot sights are parallax free.
when looking for a dot sight for a rifle, keep in mind that a 4 MOA dot will cover four inches at 100 yds (or more, many times the actual dot size is larger than advertised). this makes it very difficult to aim at a particular spot or a small target. with that in mind, select a model with the smallest dot you can get within your budget. 4MOA is as large as i can use on a rimfire handgun for hunting rodents, and 2MOA is what i currently use on my M94 swedish mauser scout.

I shoot an aimpoint, but there kind of pricy. There are several of the red dot scopes that have a selection of reticles, i.e. cross hairs, open circle, different size dots. I have a one minute dot in mine, but think it is a little bigger.

Check Cabela's or Midway. If you order a free Cabela's catalog they have pictures of the different reticles available and they make good reading just keeping up on all the new hunting gear.
