View Full Version : How's the Fishing?

Well, it's not hunting, but it's related :)

I'm coming to Alaska in a week or two on a Family cruise/tour thing, and going to be doing some fishing on one of those half-day outings while the ship is docked. Can't remember if it's in Skagway, or Ketchikan, but one of those two. Was going to do a fly-in and Fly Fish outing, but not only is it terribly expensive, it's all catch and release, which I generally don't mind. But I thought that as I'd be paying quite a bit for the trip, it'd be nice to have something to show for it. So I'm taking a 6-hour 'Sport Fishing' outing for half the price, and I get to keep what I catch and have it processed, smoked/flash frozen and shipped home. So I'm wondering how the fishing is up there this time of year? From what I can see from the weather forecast, it looks like it's going to be 59 degrees and raining for most of our trip, how's that likely to affect the fishing? I'm planning to bring some squall-type raingear, and everything else is supplied by the outfitter. Any suggestions, hints, or tips? The outing is already booked, so I'll be going on it regardless, but thought I'd ask around anyway, since the resource is available :)

Thanks,

Ken

It's always around 60 degrees and raining in Southeast Alaska!!! :D

I'm not sure how the fishing is right now, should be okay for halibut and some other ocean fish. Coho's should be winding, I would think, but don't know for sure. You could email Fish & Game down there and ask those guys.
