I finally picked up a almost brand new 348 Winchester and got my hands on some brass only to discover my priming tool (Lee Auto Prime) is too small for the 348 case to fit into. Before I order another, what have others used? The RCBS comes to mind but I want to make sure it'll work before ordering.

Lee makes about 18 different shellholders for their auto-prime.
The .348 takes a #8.
Midway part # for it is 216-299,but I'm sure that you can get it elsewhere.
If you don't have it,the Lee set of 11 autoprime shellholders only costs about $12.99,and includes the #8.

With the RCBS it uses the standard shellholder for your specific cartridge...

I have all the shellholders for the Lee, when I slip the #8 in, it's wider than the body of the tool so the brass won't fit in there. Lee recommends opening it up with a dremol tool or similar but while I have no complaints about the auto prime as it's served me well, you'd think they'd widen the body in their design for the larger cases.

M1, When I had a 50 alaskan(same case 348) I simply took a round file and enlarged the opening in my lee primer tool to alow the case to enter. I called lee and that was their recomendation. Worked great. Regards, Byron

Thanks, I borrowed a dremmel tool from a co worker and opened it up and it works fine. I also emailed Lee on why they don't just make the opening bigger as it's smaller than some of the shellholders. I never received a reply back. Great priming tool, but I have no clue why they just don't design the new ones with a larger opening instead of recommending we do it ourselves.

Just another one of those Red v. Green issues I guess

I stand corrected, Lee did get back in an email address I rarely use. They said they are redesigning the auto prime so it is able to accomodate the larger calibers.
