Just bought a EAA Witness Compact 45 auto (Tanfoglio) with 3.77" barrel and was shocked to find the Instruction Manual recommending against +P ammo in all their polymer framed pistols.
Questions:
* Is this a legal tactic?
* EAA is saying this to prevent possible warranty claims?
* Poly frame actually cannot handle extended +P use?
* Pistol is really up to the task of +P ammo?
Can the dual Recoil Springs be upgraded to slow the slide speed down for better protection of the polymer frame?
Thank-you in advance of your advice!

Accutualy the best way to slow slide velocity is increase the lock time of the slide inorder to allow pressure to decrease before the slide unlocks.Increasing lock time is how Smith & Wesson solved the slide velocity problem with their short 40,this is also how My smith solves this problem when allowing a 1911 to shoot 45 super ammo the increased spring strenght is not the best way to solve this problem, even though it is widely thought to be the sollution
I HAD a compact Witness with the steel frame in 10mm for a short while. The pistol did not have enough slide mass to handle the 10mm when loaded to orginal factory levels and it had as heavy a spring as I've seen on any pistol. It wold sling brass over 30 feet, occasionally sending one straight back into the shooters forhead....which WOULD leave a mark. I would advise you to follow the factory recommendation.
If you need, or think you need, more power than a standard .45 offers...you probably bought thre wrong pistol.

Suspect that +P 45 ammo will be OK for carry or self defense use, but might have problems for shooting a lot of it at the range.

P.S. EAA: Please put a steel insert on the Witness List. :P
