I need load data for 270 Winchester 130gr GameKings. I prefer Hodgdon and IMR powders

Hello JB,

IMR 4831 is my powder for the 270 in most loadings, and that 130 sierra is a dandy. It is the powder I think of when a question comes around about the 270 WIN.

I'm a few thousand miles from my loading book, so I can't tell you the exact grainage or my resultes- but I am a real fan of this load, and I think that it will serve you well. I'll tell you that it did come from the Sierra manaul though, and did very well.

All the Best, JB- shoot straight.

Steve

I've owned three .270's over the years, and I used lots of Sierra 130g SBT's for shooting rock chucks, jack rabbits, coyotes and grey fox. My pet load for all three guns with this bullet was using Winchester Brass, CCI 200 Primers and 58.0g IMR 4831.

That bullet was absolutely spectacular on jack rabbits and rock chucks, but much to destructive for my tastes on deer, and too hard on coyotes where you wanted to save the hides. Exceptionally accurate bullet too.

That Sierra 130 grain SBT came totally unglued even on rock chucks, and I probably ruined more excellent eating venison with this load during my tenure with the .270 than with all my other rifles combined throughout my life of hunting. In all fairness however I haven't fired a .270 caliber Sierra bullet in two decades, so I can't comment on the performance of today's production bullets.

God bless,

Sierra #3 Rifle Manual

26" test barrel
Remington Cases
Winchester WLR Primers
CTG OAL 3.300"
Data for 130gr Spitzer BT and 130gr Spitzer

IMR 4350
48.4grs 2700fps-54.9grs 3100fps

IMR 4831
52.0grs 2800fps-57.1grs 3100fps

H4831
53.7grs 2800fps-59.5grs 3100fps

Noted loads from manual
Accuracy load IMR 4350 53.2grs 3000fps
Hunting load H4831 59.5grs 3100fps

Top loads listed are max loads

I do not shoot a .270 and have never tried any of this data. Although I triple checked the numbers, spell check does not work so hot for load data, so use it at you own risk.

Good luck with the new rifle.

If you get any good loads from this, or any other source, list them in the Load Swap portion of the website.

Thanks guys, I did a couple of groups with Nosler BT's this morning, Smallest group of 5 was 1.224, over 52 grains of 4350. I only shot 3 groups this morning as time was limited but the groups did get smaller as the loads increased. I am anxious to try the sierras though. For Hunting purposes, I plan on using either Barnes TSX or Nosler Partitions

JB,

I've been testing/shooting various bullet/powder combinations with my 270 Win for a while now and have quite a bit of groups and chrony data on many types of bullets, some of which you mentioned you're interested in. I just started shooting the TSX and Nosler Partitions but have worked up a decent load with the 150 grn Partition. I've only shot a few loads of the TSX thus far but do have some on those as well.

If you are interested in specific bullets, I've probably shot them at one point or another and have some load data on them along with what I chrony'd them at and group sizes. But my shooting isn't always the best as I never seem to get to the range as much as I want to, so take that for what it's worth...if you want send me a PM and I can share some of what I have if it helps you. I've mostly used the Sierras on deer and here is one load I chrony'd around 2700 fps and have had great results with (along with the Pro Hunters):

the smallest group I got with my BT test was .658 center to center with 53 grains of 4350 (the only suitible powder on my bench)
