ive got a rem 1100 that i want to mount a red dot on. Ive looked around and have seen mounts online that attach through the trigger pins, but that doesnt seem very stable. What i was thinking is drilling the top of the rec. tapping, and mounting a weaver rail. Is that the best way to go about it? thanks for the info!

The top of that receiver is sorta thin and the bolt is right below it. Doubt if you could get more that a couple of threads worth of hold and normal length mounting screws may project far enough down into the receiver to impede the bolt.

Those canteliver mounts that use the trigger assembly pin holes are pretty stable for a shotgun.

The Rem 870's are in the same boat with to thin a reciever top to effectivly drill and tap. Remington has some canteliver scope mount barrels you might also look at. They place the scope mount on the barrel.

Use a sort of an apoxy called PC7 on top of the reciever to mount the weaver rail ! I have done this in the past , just follow the instuctions ! The problem i have is in removing the rail ! JAGG

Often if you just warm up the rail with a propane torch they will pop right off. Be careful and don't use two much heat. I used to do this with actions that customers had glassbedded at home and became stuck. Worked every time if the fella hadn't locked it in some way. Brownells makes an adhesive for attaching front and rear sights, but I've never tried it.

ok so.... im gonna take a different approach to my mounting system quandry.

Heres my newest idea... Im thinking about mounting a weaver rail (one of the leupold $8 ones from wally world), drilling and tapping vertically through the rib and mounting the scope on the rail like that. Anyone try this? what'd ys think??

thanks much
