I'm just getting back into shooting, so I have forgotten much of what little I did know.
I've ordered a Savage 12VLP, single shot in .204 Ruger.
Scope under consideration is a Leupold V-III, 4.5 - 14X,
What would be the correct/best rings for said combo?

It will depend on which of the VX-III 4.5-14's you go with. Leupold makes them with both 40mm & 50mm objective lens. I have the VX-III's with 50's on both a Kimber 84M Varmint and a Winchester M70 Coyote. They both required Leupold's high rings for adequate clearance. The VX-III with 40mm objective would probably work with medium height rings, but you should check to make sure your bolt handle will clear the occular bell when you cycle the bolt.

50mm, old eyes need a lot of help.
Are these the basic (weaver) type mounts?
Guess when I recieve rifle, then I will know, but anxious to order everything!
