A friend's father is offering to sell a 1948 flat band m94 in 30/30. Rifle retains 50% of blueing on both barrel and reciver. It is in unalter form meaning no extra holes or after market stuffs added on. Wood is nice with typical handling marks. Metal has no rust & pitting also no ugly scratches & gouges. A honest clean rifle that's a shooter. He's asking $300 in a FTF deal. Is this a fair deal since i don't know the current value on the gun. I tried to check couple of auction sites but prices varies greatly?? thanks!

Prices do vary greatly. $300 CAN be a very fair deal. You didn't mention bore condition but from what you describe it sounds to me like, in this case, $300 is very reasonable...IF the bore is good. If you start moving toward pristine condition in a flat-band carbine, you can quickly get up in the $450+/- range.

mojowojo,

$300.00 for an unaltered flat band is not a bad price. Had I the opertunity I'd jump on it.
