it just seems their track record and pricing can't be beat

so I was just wondering if anyone had some input

ps: if I built it, wish would be 5"/blued/synthetic

thanx :)

Ruger is a good choice. I have a P97 and it shoots very well and never has a hic-up.

Here is a link to a target I shot last Thursday with some reloaded 200gr. Hornady Combat/Target SWC's. These are my practive loads, I load 200gr. Hornady XTP's for personal defense.

Ruger makes excellent firearms BUT, I can recommend the Springfield Armory 1911 A1. I am extremely happy with my 1911. I know some guys that have the basic version (about $450) and the higher priced Custom Loaded Target and everyone is happy with their choice. My wife is the only one I know that doesn't think it is a fun round to shoot. Enjoy!

I have a P-90, and I think it's a superb handgun. Rugged, accurate, easily disassembled and cleaned, good sights, and it handles well for me (mine also has a nice single action pull). I also like the double/single/decocking feature. I typically shoot it single action for shooting events, but I leave it decocked with double action first shot for carrying.

I've got a sweet Beretta 8045 Cougar that ran $560... You can usually find a Springfield GI for right around $410-+....Ruger P90s and P345s are very nice firearms...I think they are in the $360 range... I've got a lot of rugers, but not a centerfire autoloading pistol from them...

it's good to hear everyones input...:)

Jagg- I don't want a generic gun because of price and I don't want to pay top dollar for the brand name with all the bells & whistles
(stainless/pearl ivory/target, etc.)
I want a NEW not used brand name that is dependable and is that companys entry model. A 700-1400 S&W or Colt isn't in my future

But I did stumble accross this little sweetie. M.S.R.P. is 520 , so I will have
to ask my local gunny what he can get it for...

I've got a good friend with one of those Charles Dalys, we call it "chuck"... If you just want it for general plinking, it should be okay... I found the trigger on it to be inconsistent and very awkward and heavy... accuracy is substandard with what should be a much better firearm... I'd much rather see you get the Springfield, its all forged goodies, and its cheaper than the CD... IMO :D

thanx for the heads up on the Chuck, will take that in to account

Springfield's site is pretty nice. I would have never gone there without
your suggestion :)

I kinda like that GI Green and the prices aren't too bad for MSRP's

Thanx again... :D

The Rugers are excellent pistols, just not my cup of tea. I've never gotten comfortable with their grip shape, and, to me, they're too thick for comfortable IWB concealed carry.

I prefer the 1911 format. Right now I have a Charles Daly Enhanced Field model 1911, and I have been delighted with it. With over 2500 rounds thru it so far I've had not a single bobble out of it, and I've shot many different loads thru it including light SWC target loads. Cost was $369.

Have carried a Ruger P97DC for years for CCW in a IWB holster. Bought my second one when they quit making them.

I picked up a P97 new that someone had hanging around for $300, heck of a gun, wouldn't trade it for anything else for ccw. I would highly recomend them. btw, p345 is a very similar gun, it has a few improvement with the girp, but still very similar.

I agree with Mexican Bob. I also have the SA 1911 A!. The best and most reliable 45 I have ever owned. Highly recommended.

Guess I lucked up and got a good one. The trigger had a hint of creep which disappeared after about 100 rounds, and it's been running like a Swiss watch ever since. Accuracy is more than I can use -- I've not shot a single load from 15 yards, standing, that went over 3", and from the bench at 25 yards it is darned near a 1-hole group-shooter with some loads. Fit and finsih are faultless, and the low-profile Novak-style rear and dovetailed front sights are superb. Nearing 3,000 rounds now, and it's never failed to feed or eject. I run it with the 2 mags that came with it, plus 4 Army surplus 1911 mags, and one's as good as the other in this pistol.

By contrast, the Springfiled I bought (and sold) last Fall had at least one stoppage every 50 rounds, had a horrible trigger, and was a 4 to 6" group-shooter. Go figure.

I"ve had great luck with my Para-Ordnance P12-45; accurate and dependable. It's had its share of use, care, and occasional neglect, and it still fires most anything I put into it. The only ammo it doesn't seem to like is Winchster; the best of the cheap stuff I've used is MagTech. About $650 several years ago; I don't know what they go for now. I have looked at the SA 1911's, and my next semiauto may be one of theirs. I've always liked the 1911 style... :)

How about a genuine Colt 1991a1?? I've had one for awhile, couldn't be happier with it. It's a little expensive, but IMO, well worth it. With either a Colt or a Ruger, you probably won't be disappointed.

I don't have anything against Colt, just the price ;) even used they
are pretty steep

still rolling things over in my mind. Haven't had/made time to hit the local
gun shops.

I guess at this time to me the Rugers still look like the best deals

I can't quit looking at the Springfields (SA) on their site
and the Charles Dalys keep winking at me...

will have to look more at the Para-Ordnance also

appreciate all the posts'...

if it's a 1911 clone you want as stated, have you considered Rock Island Armory? Try www.sarcoinc.com

Based on my limited experience with a Ruger auto, I wouldn't hesitate to give one of their.45s a chance.

As far as an "economy" 45 is concerned, my Llama large frame goes"bang every time, and shoots reasonably well.

One day, I'dlike to be able to afford a Wilson but until then...

The Ruger P 345

My first impression was it is bigger than I expected. Tho I read the specs several times stating
it was 7.5" overall, I just thought it would be smaller.

Feels real good in my hand, boy is the grip Very Slim ! 29oz seems just right. It has 3 white dot sights
that is windage adjustable. I had the all black model (prefer over the SS slide) it just looked & felt sleek
delicate and tuff all at the same time.

If you can figure out how to turn off all the 'safties', you'll be in luck.
It has 3. A hidden little pin-hole for the Ruger KEY to insert into. The ambi manual thumb safety. And
also the Magazine "not in-won't fire" set up.

P 345 has a neat little bar, about the size of a stick match, that
will pop up and has a red painted dot to show if there is a round in the chamber. It won't tell you if
it is live or spent. Also you could run your finger accross it in the dark to tell if it's up or down.

It comes with two magazines that hold (8) .45 auto each. Barrel is 4.25 long. The trigger is slick smooth
wide aluminium. At least that is what I thought, but read that it is stainless steel and has a pull of 5.6 lbs.
The whole package costs $360 at my local gunny shop.

The entry level Kimber I finger-printed all up was $795. Springfields tried and true 1911-ah, traditional Americano
model 9108L $435. Also their newer XD models. A couple used S&W and Colts over $800.Gunny offered me a
used 1911 clone made by some Co. called Star for $310. I grinned, he knew, as he put is away, but tried...;)

So I pretty much narrowed it down to the Springfield and the P345. A little more mulling-it-over is in my future
but more than likely I will have a new Ruger next to my bed soon.

I appreciate everyones response and help
:)

Inexpensive 45's.
My springfield does not qualify:(
My springfield cost close to 600 about 5 years ago. it is the loaded model, and has yet to have a malfunction in over 2500 rounds.
I sold all my other 1911 guns and kept this one.

http://pic10.picturetrail.com/VOL326/682422/6636837/112851831.jpg

I did however pic up this Smith 4506 for less than 300 bucks used.

It's a 1911 sized weapon[=BIG], and the oly thing I added to it was a set of Rubber Hogues, and an adjustable rear sights. Total cost for thes items was less than 100 bucks!;)

It is unstoppable when it comes to what it will eat and feed.
To be honest, if you load a magazine with empty casings and cycle it by hand, it will feed then all and eject all too!

Accuracy is great also. Find a used one if your looking for a reliable, yet large handgun.

Those are two FINE examples :)

I'd be proud to own either (or both)

I am longing for the Springfield PW9143L

but I am getting a warm fuzzy feeling coming on strong for the P-345

don't know what yur budget is like, but another to consider is the Sig P245.
It's the compact version of the P220
It's not at all an economy gun, that's why I asked bout yur budget

well, I went for the Ruger P345.
Ruger reputation and the price made it the clear winner.

with more research I read that these new P-series are the first guns
that Ruger has produced at their NEW Prescot,Arizona plant... FYI

so I have been playing with it-field strip'd it and removed all factory
shipping grease/coating and just getting familar with it.

got me a few box's of shells and I am heading out the door to go shoot it

Thanx all for your input

Thats awesome... let us know how she shoots...

I was all set to buy a springfield, then I picked up my beretta... my buddy bought the springfield... I shot it the other day, now I'm glad I didn't buy the springfield... it sucks... IMHO
