Has any one tried the remington 22 lr shot? Does it have the crimped end? Does winchester still make 22 shot and does any body else make a 22 shot?

I don't know about other companies but here is what CCI has to say about it's shot cartridges
Sometimes you need your rimfire shootin’ iron to act like a shotgun. We have you covered. Our shotshells hold a charge of small lead pellets in a special plastic capsule. Designed for short range pest control to about 15 feet.
Not designed to cycle semi-auto firearms, but can be manually cycled in most semi-autos.
FEATURES & BENEFITS:
* 22 LR has 31 grains of #12 shot at 1000 ft/sec
(part number 0039)
* 22 Magnum has 52 grains of #12 shot at 1000 ft/sec
(part number 0025)
* Will not harm your gun barrel
* Any residue comes out with standard cleaning methods
* Clean-burning propellants keep actions cleaner
* Sure-fire CCI priming
* Reusable plastic box with dispenser lid

Know that the crimped cased shot is still made, At one time both Federal and WW made the crimped version, but i belive only WW is still being listed.
Head to head, the crimped shells do work just about as well as the CCI plastic capsule types. Crimped versions use a tiny shot size (the smallest size is termed "dust") and while each pellet isn't as heavy, there are more of them.
Oddly, side by side, the crimped shells (even with their tiny pellets) zing through a tin can at a farther distance than the CCI version.
Problem with the crimped version is that they work their best in revolvers. Once that crimped section folds back out (and usually spits someplace in that once crimped neck), it tends to be a little "sticky" in ejection.

looking at a 572 smooth bore on guns america I am pretty shure that they function the crimped shotshells good.

Will function. MAy get an occasional split neck on the crimp (but who cares, you aren't going to reload them); being a smoothbore made for them, won't be a problem.
Smooth bore will add some range. rifling tends to spin the shot charge and the patterns tend to look a bit like do-nuts...right were you aim is where the pattern is thinnest. Smoothbore improves that a bit, giving moreeven patterns and adding a bit of effective distance.
Used a smooth-bore bolt gun for a time, and made a smoothbore single shot (on an old Stevens Favorite). Figure the max. effective range was someplace near 8-10yards. Rifled barrels ran out of patern about 2 yards closer. At that range, the tiny pellets are moving kind of slow and the pattern opens up enough to be ineffective.
But i'd hide under a fig tree and give the fruit-theiving-birds a lesson now and again....same thrill as a full sized shotgun: bird flares, you jump up, swing on him as he tries to back peddle, and goes down in a shower of feathers.
