Earlier this summer, I bought a Win 94 Legacy in .357. I've put about 400 rounds of 38sp and 100 rounds of 357 through it. I have had misfeeds with the 38sp cartridges 3 times. (One time there were a couple of 357 rounds in the magazine along with the 38's.) It appears that more than one round will cycle out of the magazine with the first one getting jammed in the lifting action.
Has anyone had such experiences? Could this be attributed to the shorter 38sp cartridges? Magazine spring? Suggestions?
Thanx folks,
David

I have read about this type of problem once or twice before. A fellow from England had this type of malfunction on his .357 Trapper. The problem turned out to be the small spring on the side of the lever that positions the short pistol cartridges on the carrier.
Here is a link to that thread.

Scroll down to gunsmithing and then down to Winchester Spares

I have a '94 Legacy in .44 mag and a friend of mine has a .357. The '94 action was designed for rifle length cartridges e.g. 30/30, etc., and not short pistol type cartridges. The shorter the cartridge you use, the more likelihood of feeding problems.
The most likely cause of your problem is short-stroking the lever which allows a cartridge to pop out of the magazine underneath the lifter. I've done this a time or two with mine when I was shooting out in the tall grass and didn't want to eject the empty case very far, so I tried to ease the lever forward and catch the empty as it ejects. The same thing has happened with my buddy's .357.
It's best to work the lever with authority for proper cycling. If that dosen't eliminate your problem completely, then you might want to have a smith check out your rifle.
