This is a ridiculous question but im gonna ask it anywayz because im not an expert in this field. Are most rimfire rifles made for scope mounting or is it only possible if the rifle's description says "mounting/drilled for scope"?
Some rimfire rifles come with holes drilled/tapped for mounts and some have grooves milled in the receivers to accept clamp-on type ring mounts. Then, there are older rifles have none of the above.
The most common for rimfires is the grooved receiver.
Today, when we say "rimfires", we can't just assume that to mean .22LR chambering. There's the .22 WRM, the .17 HMR, the .17 MkII, in addition to the standard .22LR. These other chamberings can be had in some pretty pricey rifles and, as such, come with holes d/t'd for mounts, or like the Ruger M77/22's, with special rings to fit integral mounts.
