Hey guys,

what do you think would be the best aimpoint reddot to put on my hunting pistol. I see that most people have the 7000 series on various other different makes/models. What kind of mounting hardware am I going to need?

thanks,

Morning

If you have the Light Hunter model your just about set. It has a scope base supplied. All you need is a set of 30mm rings and you can mount it up.

If you have a standard 629 then your going to need a base designed for that gun such as B-Square #122-200-110 S&W mount from Brownells at 69.95 or a set of Warne Smith & Wesson revolver Mounts # 947-000-101 at $89.95 and a set of 30 mm rings of your choice.

I personally like the Warne base as it will fit the predrilled holes and you do not lose your rear sight.

These bases accept Weaver style rings, I like the Leapold PRW all steel rings or the Millett angle-loc scope rings which I have on my aimpoint 5000 on a Ruger Super Blackhawk. The angle lock rings give you windage adjustment and come in silver to match the gun which the Weaver does not and they a bargian at around 50.00 list and much less expensive at places like Midway.

Bob,

thanks for the reply.

I have the regular 629 classic with the 8" barrel. I about had a heart attack when I saw the price for the mounting hardware! Man, I didn't think they would be that expensive!

Though the Smiths are such beautiful guns it's one of the reasons I went to the Ruger's. They come with a set of rings for all the guns that are set up for scopes.

Along with that is the ability to accept longer bullets and take higher pressures. I started in the early sixties with a five screw 29 with the six and half in barrel. It went thru a quarter million rounds, two barrels and two sets of innerds before it was retired. It shot lots and lots of siloute matchs, bowling pin shoots and was used for hunting.

I don't know how many rounds have gone downrange with the big Rugers, but their darn near impossible to shoot loose. I'm not putting hot loads thru them, 255 grain Kieth style cast hard lead with a gas check at around 1350 fps.

My eyesight is getting where I'ts a strain to shoot open sights so at first I tried scopes and then went to the aimpoint. I can keep six shots in a ten inch circle at a hundred yards from a sitting rest with the aimpoint so I'm really pleased with it.

I know the bases are expensive, but those 44 mags deliver a bunch of recoil and a good scope base and rings are manditory.
