What are the determining factors or exterior markings that will determine the diference between a Winchester Model 94 pre 64 and post 64. What about serial number placement between the 2?
Also what does the "AE" mean on some 94s?
Thanks for any help.

One real quick way to determine if it is pre/post '64 is turn the rifle over and look at the front of the lever link where the pivot pin goes through the link. A pre-'64 will have a lock screw in the center of the link, a post-64 will not.

The change also came not too long after serial number 2,500,000.

AE is "Angle Eject" meaning it throws the case out at an angle to facilitate top mounting of a scope. The old ones ejected the case straight up where a scope would have blocked ejection. Though I don't know exactly when that feature came out. I have a post 64 pre safety 94AE. I think it was made in '89, but I can't really tell-

2,700,000 is generaly considered the first of the post-64s.

A pre-'64 will have a lock screw in the center of the link, a post-64 will not.

The link pin retaining screw was reintroduced in 1990.

"Angle Eject" receivers introduced in 1983.
