Recently obtained a very nice Winchester Model 92 in 25 20. There were some old factory cartridges with it with what appeared to be a cupro-nickel hollow point bullet of 60 grs according to the box. They shot really well in the gun, but I ran out of them and my handloads have not done well. I would like some of you 25 20 fans to help me with a good target hand load with jacketed or lead cast bullets. I have several 25 molds from 60 to 90 grains, two with gas check capabilities. Any filler in the cast bullet loads? Thanks in advance................Catch
Catch,
what flat nosed bullet moulds do you have in .25? I have a lyman cast bullet manual that may have some data for moulds made by them that can get you started. I also have an old M92, mine is not very nice, that I shoot a bit. The Remington 86gr bullets shoot pretty well out of it with the 75gr Speer being pretty good also. For whatever reason I have yet to find a load for the 60gr Hornady that the rifle likes...maybe mine just doesn't like them. I am trying to start shooting lead in it but the first lead bullets I purchased where of very poor quality and did not shoot well. I guess I'll have to add another mould to the collection if I want a decent bullet for this rifle.

I have an old Remington Model 25 pump in 25-20 that loves 9.0 grains of Hercules 2400 with Hornady's 60 gr. FP #2510 bullet. It also likes 7.2 Or up to 8.0 grains of Win 296 with remingtons 87 gr. bullet. This rifle is not a tack driver but surprizingly accurate considering the open sights and my old eyes. I am just in the process of working on cast bullets to shoot in it but will probably be put on hold, Duck season opens Sat and Grouse the next Sat and the dog & I are ready. Good luck with your 25-20. It's a great fun gun!

I have two, one for an 86 gr flat point with a gas check, and a 60 gr plain base. Is your 75 gr speer pointed?

Have you ever tried 4198 behind that 60 gr bullet? This cartridge is like the 32 20 and is real fussy about its load.
