has anyone tryed the 300gr Hornady handgun ammo through their .44mag.If so how good is it or does the 240gr shoot better ?..regards Katipo, a further addition to this post, some where I thought I read you need a 1 in 38 twist to get 300gr to work well, my trapper is a 1 in 26, is this fact accurate or will the trapper throw 300grs without any problems, particurley
accuracy
Your Trapper should shoot the 300 grain bullets as well as the 240's since you have the faster twist. Some folks with the slower 1-38 twist, as found in the Marlins, claim that the heavier bullets won't stabilize. I have personally found that not necessarily the case. My 1894 Marlin will shoot them fine, as long as the velocity is kept up with max or near max loads. You will be fine with the 1-26 rifling.

Thanks for the advice, you read so many different thoughts,
theroys and ideas on this forum that it can make things alittle confusing or maybe more complicated than they really are.Think I'll just buy a box and see how they go.

Mine has the 1-38" twist and it shoots 300 gr Hornady XTPs over 19.5" H110, very well. In fact, it's one of the most accurate loads I've shot through it!
My Ruger 96 will typically shoot a group of about 4 inches at 50 yards with this ammo. Penetration is incredible, to put it lightly. Recoil is unpleasant for me at least.

I have a marlin with a twist rate of 1 in 38. the 300 gr bullets work great.
Here is a website that explains about what you were asking:

A50-70 all you guys are welcome for the link. I tripped into it when I had the same question and kept getting several different confusing answers. Besides I get a lot of good info from you guys and don't mind returning the favor by giving links to stuff I find.
