I own a Stevens 5100 and was once told of a way to find out the age by the letters imprinted on each piece of the gun. There are no serial numbers. Can anyone help?

You ask a good question. I picked up a 16 gauge Stevens 5100 last week in excellent condition. Prior to 1968, rifles and shotguns did not have to have a serial number, that changed with the Gun Control Act of 1968.

I am curious about the date of my Model 5100 and will do some research. Will let you know what I learn. All the best...
