setup
Savage m64 semi auto .22
F1 Chrony setup abput 10 feet in front of the gun,
a box of CCI CB shorts and LR
when I shoot CCI CB shorts through it I get about 675 FPS showing on the chrony.
when I shoot the CCI CB LR through it I get about 500 FPS thru it, and it is noticably more quiet.
just a trick of the batch? less propellent in the LR batch?
not that I'm complaining, I got the CB's for plinking in my backyard without having to wear hearing protection, so quieter is better, and the CB LR's are easier to cycle through the semi auto.

found part of my answer.
I found this site http://guns.connect.fi/gow/highpow.html
which states " In most semi-auto rifles we have found that the short case retracts from the chamber before the firing cycle is totally completed, causing a loud noise to emanate from the action area. "
this makes sense and is probabl the cause of me thinking the shorts are louder then the longs, since my M64 partially ejects the short casing prematurly.
