Hey guys,
It's my first time loading Weatherby Magnum and, know there are some things to look for with the rounded shoulder and, am trying to develope a hunting load for the 300 Weatherby magnum in a 180 barnes bullet. Anybody done this that has any tips or suggestions. I am not the shooter, prefer a little less gun for my hunts unless dangerous game however, a friend likes the power so, am helping him out.
Which 180gr bullet? The data varies between the regular X, the XLC (coated), and the triple shock.

The regular Barnex X FB 180 grain .308 bullet. I don't load boat tails on the weatherby due to votex and barrel harmonics on that heavy load in a sporter barrel.
BT's work just fine. 180 grainers are 180 grainers...pick your powder. RL22 is the classic choice. 4350, 7828, H1000 all work well...and go from there. It's a great round and great rifle. Kills critters real good.

I shoot a .340 which is the same casing with a .338 bullet. I've had good results with RL22, IMR7828, and both 4350's
RL22 appears to pretty temperature sensitive as far as velocity goes. I observed a loss of nearly 150fps between 90 degrees and 35 degrees. I had read about that issue and decided to see for myself and it appears, from my limited testing, to be the case.
I have not shot any of this data, nor does spell check work for loading data...use it at your own risk.
