In 12 gauge, any current Federal or Remington. Someone might pay a bit more for Federal paper shells. The Remington STS is preferred by more and more shooters, myself included. The old Winchester AA was the preferred shell for years. Some of the newer ones aren't so great. If they've got a separate basewad, chuck them. It's white in the ones I've seen, easy to spot.
In 20 gauge, any Federal or Winchester. I haven't loaded Remingtons, but they're probably OK. Usually one or two Winchesters out of a box don't survive the first reload, either from a split mouth or a bad crimp. If they survive the first reload, they'll last for several more.
I don't have any experience with other makes of 12 and 20 gauge shells, or .410s.

Any Federal, Remington or Winchester cases without the basewad are acceptable. I sort through the trash cans at a public range and discard any shells that are not one-piece construction. All the best...
