You have some rather large friends.....good thing they're "friends".

Makes one wonder if the Rigby wouldn't be a good choice for the one rifle. I wonder how far away the 400gr solids shoot from the 300gr XFB at close range.
Ah, Alyeska -
Is this when you were using the varmit call? :p
The little fella seems a bit agitated in the last photo of that sequence. Looks like one time where the comfort and security of a vehicle wouldn't be all that comforting.

The last picture was from the comfort of the Land Cruiser. He was one ticked off elephant.
The two before it were the "charge" while we were out tracking a group of Waterbuck. You'll notice there are no up close pictures on that one. When he started coming our way, the camera was put away and the safety was slipped into the fire position. Not that my 300 would have done much, but Steve's 416 would have. There were two others with this guy, but he was the instigator. He stopped all on his own. I think having that "tunnel" of the tree and the brush kept him from coming closer, just wasn't worth the hassle, or he was wasn't mad enough.

Elephants with flapping ears and raised trunks are just indicating who is "da boss" and are normally not serious about completing the charge.
Those who come in quietly, with ears pinned flat against their bodies and trunk curled up in a coil below its head are the more "dedicated" variety and sitting in a car won't neccesary mean you are out of harms way.. best to get out of reach, quickly! (Unless you have the permit to shoot one and that will be a story you will tell to all and sunder till your dying days)
