So in my SE corner of Wa. I took my little brother and several friends out this year. My little brother shoots a .338 Win Mag Friends calibers are 7mm, 25-06, and 300 Win Mag. I packed my 264 Win Mag.
We took 2 3x3's 3x4 and 2 2x3's.
All fired factory ammo with the exception of my, I hand-loaded 140gr Hornadys.
With little surprise the 338 was a one-shot-one-kill. What was surprising was the lack of meat damage, even with a beautifully placed shot. The 300 shot 180gr failsafes. Took 2 shots to get the job done, or at least anchor him till I could get up to him with a black talon to the head. The 7mm, 25-06, and 264 all followed suit with the 338 in one shot.

I was very happy that we all could fill tags, and had fun tracking the beasts. This year was very welcomed as last year, when only two of us found legal bucks

Sure do...took the Kahlotus "cut off" just last year to drive over to Idaho for a bear hunt.

As an east sider, I still get a little clausterphobic over here in the woods. Once you're 20 yards off the road, you're in the woods. You could be anywhere from the COlumbia River up to the Canadian border as it all looks pretty much the same. It's thick and there's few landmarks to be seen. The light is diffused and it's hard to tell direction by the sunlight.
The CLinton "forest plan", which was a no logging plan, has allowed a lot off the old forest cuts to grow thick. It can be real tough going.

It scared the "h" out of me at first, but you learn to navigate kinda like a sailor on the ocean. After hiking around for awhile, I can set under a mossy tree and fall asleep on the soft forest floor. It is a little weird to wake up in the middle of the thick forest and try to remember where you are.

As you can tell, I still prefer hunting on the dry side of the mountains.
