I bought a Win 94 trapper last summer and I haven't been able to shoot it much. Last time I was at the range I saw almost all of my cases had a bugle about 1/16" above the rim. What is causing this, is it a big problem and what are my options.
Thanks

All cartridges are smaller in diameter than the chamber they go in, has to be this way. If you get a rifle with the chamber toward the long side of tolerances, and a cartridge from new forming dies (in other words, a minimum cartridge) then the clearance can be as much as .010", sometimes even slightly more. I assume the rifle is a .30-30. Check the expansion ring, and if it isn't greater than .422-.423" everything is completely normal.

One of the 94's I have has a large chamber. It is new manufacture and within specs, just at the upper end of the tolerance. I separate cases for that rifle specifically and do not have any problems with it.

I forgot to mention the caliber. Its a 44 Mag.

The only change to the earlier answer is to change the diameter to .457-.459.

I shoot a lot of 44 Mag . I read some where in one of the mags to neck size the brass.
So working with 1000 peices of Brass , using about 200 a week over the course of two years I found maybe a dozen split case's.
