In my opinion, they are the best that Japan makes. I have used the whitetail series, both 3x-9x and currently use their binoculars. I like a thinner crosshair, but other then that, I liked them a lot. Both rifles were stolen, and I replaced them with Leupolds but that's because I couldn't find the Pentax scopes I wanted.
I don't think that they are well marketed (at least in our area), so anyone that uses them has done their research.

I couldn't see spending $1000 on the German scopes, and didn't see any difference in clarity. So, anyone who entered our hunting camp with Pentax scopes would be considered serious about his hunting.
Good Luck

I have 2 Pentax scopes, and I consider them a top quality scope- fully the equal of a top line Leupold, Nikon, Burris, etc.
I agree with TPV about their marketing- or lack of it.
Pentax has been making high quality optics for a long, long time.

I cannot comment on the Pentax, but I own two Nikon scopes that I believe are clearer than any Luepy I've owned.;)

I have 4 1.5x6 compacts. They are a little heavier than some, but if I remember, they have brass tubes and superior optical glass. A few years ago I found out by accident that Burris "Top of the Line" glass came from Pentax, in trade for the Colorado companies help with assembly.
I also have a pair of binoculars, 10x50 Pentax, that I compared to everything in the dealers case. I won't say they are better than everyone's, but I could not tell the difference, and only $250...
The scopes cost me $500.00 each, but I am sure that with internet sales you could find them cheaper. Boondocks Sporting Goods had a sale on them recently.(Eagle River Alaska)

I have one Pentax scope, a 2-5x20 Whitetails Unlimited that I mounted on a .308 Browning BLR. The best I can tell, the scope is virtually identical to a Burris Fullfield II 1.75-5x20. The dimensions are the same, and even use the same flip up scope caps. Click adjustments are also the same. Optically, they are very close to one another. The only differences between the two was the price and the power adjustment. The Pentax uses a ring separate of the eyepiece, while the Burris is one unit. Other than that, the tube is identical. Its possible they come from the same plant, but I cannot say whether each scope uses the same lenses and coatings. I also cannot say whether one is any clearer/brighter than the other.
