As the name of the thread states...what is your shooting system? How do u get ready for your shots? Whats your breathing pattern, where do you place your finger on the trigger? What do u do basically to make sure this shot is exactly the same as every other shot.

Heres mine...

Where i shoot i dont have a bench so i shoot either from prone position, or laying down and resting my rifle on my guncase. First i load my rifle, put the safety on and lay down. I get comfortable in the grass(i.e. pat down any sharp edged grass thats poking me) and look through the scope. Make sure i have a clear shot at the target without any grass in the way(I really need a bench...). I take off the safety. I then close my eyes, breath in deep and let it all out. Look through the scope again and make sure im at least close to the target and close my eyes again and breath in deep. I start letting my breath out and i open my eyes, and squeeze my rifle with my middle and ring figer to my shoulder. When ive let out 1/2 to 5/8 of my breath out i hold it. I make sure the crosshairs are where i want them to be and squeeze the trigger; not to quickly and move the rifle but quick enough that i dont sit there and hold my breath for too long, or i get shaky and have to redo everything. I know i asked for finger position on the trigger but ive never really made a concious decision on where to place my finger. It just goes where it goes.

I am just curious to hear your setups to your shots.

I put 4 rounds in me Marlin, don my earmuffs, post a target, walk back to my shooting rest(a Crepe Myrtle tree ~50 yards) lean up agin a nice steady limb(unless the wind is blowin), a fire. 4 shots. Go see what damage has been done. Yesterdi, had 3 shots touchin and the 4th was about .75 low left, called cause I knew it when shot.

Been working real hard on them open sights again.

Depends on what i am shooting (Rifle), and what I'm shooting at! I love to shoot off hand. I have been shooting in competition since I was 11 years old. I have some different quirks w/ each firearm, including pistols. Instinct is the most important factor, The best shooters in the world can't give you the best philosophy. Practice is what works!! JP

Sorry, I had to respond again, Let's talk breathing! I believe in the school of thought, that is, exhale your breath as though it were a sigh. Use your nose. If you bench-rest, jump allot before your shot! Settle into position quickly, Sight your rifle and FIRE! You will find your own rhythm in time. If you use this method in practice it will serve you well in tough times! JP
