I picked up some Barnes 450g .458's to use in my Backup BFR Elk revolver (oh yea). Anybody have any .45/70 loads for this fine bullet?

I've got the old Barnes manual, but nothing for 450 grainers in 45-70.

I'd give them a call and ask...they're very helpful.

zeppelin,
Sound's interesting. I have a 457 wildwest guns , which is a modified 45-70 marlin. It's stretched out a little to be able to get more powder in the casing. I used the triple shock on moose up here and was happy with the results. I have had 3 one shot kills on moose so far with the last one going through the shoulder and breaking ribs on the way out. These 3 were with a 300 wsm and so far I haven't been able to recover a bullet because of pass through. One was through the neck so I guess I shouldn't count that one as far as penetration. But i'm interested in loading my 457 with triple shock bullets. Right now i'm using kodiak bullet's in 350 grains made here in town.

I have some 405g soft nose jacketed bullets already loaded and they will waste an elk. Hunting starts Friday after this so I may be 'stuck' with them.
