Well whats the funnest things to shot at?
Me and my a couple of my buddies usully go splunking I think its called, and often shoot at random objects, sometimes to see if they will stop a bullet, or just to see them explode.
I am looking for a new rifle, but have been using my dads old 300 win mag, and my buddies have a 30-06 and one has a 223.
Anyways, I have tried shooting at different things, including lenses that claim to be bullet proof, but even the 223 goes right through.
Text books, the 300 seems to make it through the farthest by a good amount, but still cant make it though a yellow pages (its about 4" thick).
Water mellon was dissapointing, we expected it to kinda explode, but it just put holes in it.
So far those big blocks of ice have been the neatest as they kinda exlode.
So whats the funnest thing for you to shoot? or have shot?
Do you clean up and properly dispose of the items you use for targets?

Try large balloons fill them with red jello, put in the frigerator until jello firms up, put a couple in the freezer. If you don't have balloons use milk cartons, plastic or cardboard.
Old use light bulbs are fun with a 22lr
Old TV's
Old appliances
Plastic bottles filled with water
There are a ton of things you can find, just make sure of your backstop.

I'll have to try the jello for sure.
We made a dirt burm with the tractor, its about 12 feet high and 25 feet long, and we shoot from a spot thats about 5 feet higher the the targets.
I've always wanted to shoot cell phone and get it on video, dont know why though.

In my youth I used to shoot the primers in uncrimped (no pellets) shot gun shells at about 50 yards w/ my .22 mag. That will teach you to shoot steady. Now I use gallon milk jugs filled w/ sand. An 8mm Mauser makes them explode! They burn threw split rims also. 7.62*54R work well also, both are more cost effective than Commercial ammo. A M44 will also give you one of the best flame shows! Please don't shoot a cell phone w/ a mercury battery! JP

I am kind of partial to frozen solid pumpkins. Non-carved so theyare solid.
Remember to clean up afterwards.
This last weekend we had our 9th annual Pumpkin Shoot fund raiser at our gun club.
$2.00/pumpkin and you set them up at either 25 or 50 yards.
You can use what ever rifle/handgun/shotgun that you want. One fellow even had a cannon that fired a 2" round ball.
My wife used her s/s Ruger 77/44 44mag rifle and I used my 45-70, 300RUM, 375RUM and my Ruger Super Redhawk 454 Casull.
Excellent fun watching those pumpkins blow up.
If you've never shot at large fruits or vegetables I recommend that you give it a try.

I like to stick peanut butter smeared toothpicks in the ground 200 yards down range and shoot the flies that land on them.

XRIDE, i can't get enough of those square box type exploding targets with the orange dots on them. just make sure you don't set them up on anything that will catch fire.
our range has dry hard packed dirt. we shoot at golf balls with .22's each shot is a stroke. the hole is to roll it over the target burm before the frame holders. lowest score wins. it's not the same type of fun as blowing things up with high power rifles, but it gets entertaining. especially when there's a bet on the line.

x,
Try charcoal brickets - They explode - Cheap & No Clean-up!
Could also try molassis smeared paper targets - But... Only shoot the flies as they land!

This past weekend my 6 yr. old granddaughter wanted to go out ta our pond n shoot with Papa...
I have 6 swingin' 8" steel discs that she spray paints different colors n then chooses which color Papa's supposed ta try for....she really likes ta change her mind at bout 3/4's trigger sqeezed... :)
Anyways 2 of the spray paint cans wouldn't spray so I set em on the dash a my truck while we did our playin'...when we thought we'd had enough we started puttin' stuff in the truck n saw them paint cans sittin' in the window in the sun....they were a bit warm n I thought they might spray now so we headed fer the targets...
NO-GO still no spray...so we set em up on the dirt berm n walked back ta the truck n retrieved the 32-20 Mod.53 n stoked er up...
Well one a them cans was flourescent green n it sure made a grand show heated up n all when I hit it.... a green paint ball bout 6' around instantly appeared...kinda like a starburst firewerk....impressed granddaughter ta no end....the other was flat black n did bout same thing but didn't tickle her near as much as the green did..

RAY;
300 yards would be a par 65 at our range. That was great shooting. It looks like he can even reuse the ball. We may have to step up to higher caliber clubs.

the funnest things my buddy and I shot were little cylinders filled with explosives. He got his PhD working in a combustion lab, so he got all sorts of goodies. Some of them are't impact sensitive, but the ones that are are really fun :D
These little cylinders were about 3/4 the height of a 45acp case and about the same diameter. It was a test of marksmanship, and was obvious when you hit it. There wasn't anything left to clean up either that was always nice.

Under the right cirucumstances, the watermellon should blow up, my dad used a 243 with a 58 gr bullet, should have video taped it. water jugs filled with water will spray out nicely as well

Mostly, I like targets that are friendly when left will disolve or be eaten. I shoot necco wafers a candy that comes in a roll about the size of a quarter. Lifesavers work well, as do carrots. My fun targets also include 5inch balloons tied on a line with monofilement fish line, try them at 100 off hand getting it to stand still long enough will try a persons patience. Try, benching your rifle and shooting chicken eggs at 150yds. If you can get it 1/4 sticks of dynamite are also very fun.

When I was in college, I belonged to a local chapter of the Long Hunter's club. We would have shoots similar to the 3D Archery competitions where you walk through the woods, and have to shoot in a particular spot (marked by a surveyor's stake), at a small cellophane bag of flour hung from a tree limb at some distance. Was great fun and the puff of flour was interesting to see. Kinda fun, but you have to be in place were it is safe without fear of the bullet going someplace not intended!
Shooting skeet placed an unknown distances from field positions (make it interesting, not easy) is fun as well.
As always, clean up any trash left behind, even monofilament line...

Having two granddaughters whom comsume a lot of milk those gallon plastic milk jugs make nice explosive targets for most center fire rifles and give a good estimation of the kill zone on most big game.
They explode, but usually stay togather enough to be easy to clean up. Their size makes for good targets up to 300 yards plus.

When I was doing a lot of muzzle loader shooting, we used to shoot at a number of odd stuff at 25 yds, and the same targets are a lot of fun with a 22. Try white thumb tacks stuck in the blackjack. Playing cards set on edge at 15 yards make great targets for muzzle loaders with wide round balls, and would make a challange for any cartridge. Perfection in this event is a clean cut for the full width of the card and watching the top half drop to the ground. Necco (candy) waifers stuck in slotted boards are good (also great for kids w/BB guns or pellet guns at 15 yards. The little catsup cups at Burger King/McDonalds filled with flour. Try feathers stuck in a board. A cigarette/cigar stuck in the mouth of a styrofome maniquen head is interesting with penalties for hitting the head. Egg shoots used to be a lot of fun also, starting at 25 yds, and a miss meant that you had to eat the egg raw or pay a buck. Eggs were placed on top of individual pieces of logs. The eggs were moved back 5 yds after each relay, until there was only one shooter left. charcoal brickets are good, but are even better when they are hung on a string when there is a little breeze. Lastly, try lighting a farmer type (Ohio blue tip) match at 10-15 yds, or just snuffing out a candle that is lit and in a cardboard box at the same distance.
Not many can manage this and it brings real bragging rights.

Tannerite. Can't beat it...and the nice thing is, there is no real cleanup needed after you hit it. :)
My next go round, this January, will be with an 8lb jug...approx. 1/3 full of junk powder and the rest filled with Tannerite. Te biggest to date we have touched off was like 12 charges...did it in a mail-tube...left a tidy little crater in the ground...just somthing about shooting somthing that goes kaboom...puts a smile on your face.

I'll have to say the stress ball with that Happy Smiley face. I have quite a few of them and now have finally put them to good use. This is probably why they call 'em "stress balls" :D
